The Story of GingerKnot

The Story of GingerKnot

Ok here we go - blog post #1 and to be honest, I'm not too sure where to start... so, in the wise words of Maria von Trapp, let's start at the very beginning, it's a very good place to start.

It's been seven years since I started on my professional career ladder. I went from waiting tables to regulars at whetherspoons to waiting for approvals from big company executives in the media industry. It was a whirlwind of a change for me from my small coastal town in Devon, to the smoky, yet exciting London abyss - but a change that I couldn't wait for!

I got to work on the most amazing projects, from designing logos to what's now one of the most popular quiz shows in the country, to speaking in front of tables full of international TV producers in an attempt to impart some of my... let's call it, amateur wisdom.

It's not for the faint-hearted, the job is full on, it's busy but when you see your work in the limelight of the world it's definitely a rewarding feeling.

However, seven years in... I've reached the seven year itch. I craved something more, something that takes me away from the laptop screen (she says, ironically starting an online blog). I found myself at a point where I just wanted to try something new. I wanted to feel creative on my terms. I wanted to just give it a go and see what happened. Why not!?

I guess I also felt the looming number of birthday #30 on the horizon and a sense of feeling some sort of achievement in my 20s to look back on. 29 is an odd year I gotta admit.

So, in a long-winded way of beginning this story... GingerKnot was born from a concoction of intrigue, panic and a mild sense of not-giving-a-fuck.

I remember an old housemate getting a plant hanger as a gift once and I just thought it was so cute and I wanted one too... but I had that mindset of "I could make that" which is a sentence I know every artist cringes at. However... I actually could, so I did!

A small, spiral plant hanger was what got me hooked. I just kept trying new things, creating new gifts to give people for their birthdays (sorry pals - it's macrame from here on out from me) and actually realised I loved the process! Which is a love that I'd been searching for, for a while.

After a short time, I bit the bullet and created my online shop which was SCARY. A month in, and I'm honestly so grateful for the orders I've had so far. It's been probably one of the weirdest but most fun things I've ever done.

The fear of failure is so real. But the excitement of trying is better.

So please, stick around to see what else comes out of this quirky little side-quest 💛
