Launching an online handmade macramé store was not something that I had on my 2026 bingo card, yet here we are.
I don't think anyone could have prepared me for what opening online actually meant. I thought it'd just be, create a website, add your products, attach a price and then obviously be amazed by the influx of orders that I was bound to get... right?
I mean, sure that has pretty much been the basis of it (minus the hundreds of orders)... but there's also so much more that I definitely didn't anticipate.
Here are five things that I've learnt...
#1 Shopify is friend - not foe
If you asked me at the start of this journey, I would not have been so kind (skip to #5 as to why)
#2 Becoming a Socials Queen is... HARD
Sorry but, since when was social media so complicated? Is it just me? Probably. (but if you do wanna throw me a few likes and a follow, I'll love you forever xoxo)
#3 Navigating Shipping is... EASY!
No notes.
#4 Google Console?... Analytics?... Merchant?... I'm still confused.
Running through this data labyrinth is not for the faint hearted - wish me luck!
#5 I Have Zero Patience
Yes, I asked my boyfriend what he thinks I've learnt since launching the store.
His answer? Patience. I felt mildly attacked... but, he's right. I'm working on it!
So, there you have it. Five things that I didn't think I'd need a lesson in, but I'm definitely glad I did.
Right, that's it for now... I'm off to manifest that influx of orders I'm due.
